Over The Garden Wall, and Into The Unknown

Over the Garden Wall
To get into the Halloween and autumn spirit, I decided to rewatch Patrick McHale's whimsical yet heartrending show, Over the Garden Wall. Each episode focuses on a different story and setting as the main characters navigate through the Unknown in search of a way back home, and I pulled from the darker side of some of those stories to come up with the inspiration for these three works. For each piece, I listened to a song from the show on loop, just to get the mood right. Langtree's Lament, Auntie Whispers' Theme, and Old Black Train respectively.

The first is a portrait of Miss Langtree, a woman who lost all hope and joy after her lover seemingly abandoned her, though at least her story has a happy ending. After her is the main antagonist of the show, known only as The Beast, looming over the skull of an unfortunate victim claimed by the Unknown. Finally, a bittersweet piece to end the set as undead pumpkin people dance around their gigantic patriarch Enoch, with the main characters having joined their ranks. Both the show and these pieces will never fail to stir my frigid heart.

Over The Garden Wall, and Into The Unknown

I can't recommend the show enough. From the mood and the autumn atmosphere, to the gloomy parts and the music.
